Dr. Caroline Douglas-Pennant

Clinical Supervisor

I believe that therapy can provide a space to explore how past experiences, attachment struggles and parental relationships can impact well-being; helps us to understand beliefs about self and patterns of relationships, reflect on positive and negative interactions of communication. I believe it can be a valuable resource to explore identity and an individual’s value system.

I worked in the NHS as a Registered General Nurse (RGN), Nurse Practitioner and Counselling Psychologist for 25 years, across a variety of settings. These include Accident and Emergency, Primary Health Care, and Homeless and Refugee outreach teams. I presently work part time at CAMHS in Hammersmith and Fulham and have a private practice.

I studied at The Tavistock for a Post-Graduate Diploma in Family Therapy in 2000. Over the past 20 years I have continued to develop my knowledge and skills around working with certain family dynamics and constellations. My doctorate explored the experience of parental divorce for children and young people and I use present research in Narrative and Family Therapy to support my work with families.

I am a trained EMDR practitioner, an intervention particularly helpful when working with trauma. I have also trained in CBT to work with mental health presentations such as anxiety, depression and OCD. I work within NICE guidelines, using evidence-based practice.

I use NVR (Non-Violent Resolution) to support families and young people with challenging behaviours and believe that there is always a way of developing peaceful and harmonious relationships in both our personal and professional life. I use EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) to support couples, particularly in relation to co-parenting post divorce. This is a unique space where young people and families can be supported to develop a communication platform to share worries and fears.

I remain curious to hear client’s unique stories and consider it a privilege to have the opportunity to think together about what meanings have been attached to those experiences and any impact they may have had on an individual's capacity to flourish.
